Stephanie Camello Gives You 10 Tips On How to Become a Successful Data Analyst

Stephanie Camello has been a marketing data analyst for over 8 years. Now she's here to give you 10 tips on how to become a successful data analyst yourself!

1) Start out by landing an internship or entry-level data analyst job either working for a large company or for an ad agency that does marketing for large companies.

2) Find an analytics mentor to guide you as you learn more about the day to day of an analyst.

3) Seek out projects that will let you stretch your legs and give you practice working with raw data.

4) Always let the data speak for itself. Never alter the data to someone's liking, simply report the facts.

5) Establish yourself as reputable. No one will trust an analyst who is inaccurate or sloppy with the numbers.

6) Learn as many analytics tools as you can. Excel and Tableau are the go-to tools that will be expected of most analysts. PowerBI, Google Analytics, any Google marketing tool are good to know as well. The more tools you master, the more diversified your resume and the better your chances of landing the perfect career job you want.

7) Establish working relationships with coworkers in other departments like ad operations, creative, strategy or any other team you think you could learn from. Learning how other departments do their job and how it impacts the data you analyze makes you diversified and makes it easier to solve issues outside of your department.

8) If at an agency, try working across multiple clients so you can get a feel for how analytics KPIs and goals are different between an auto client vs a travel client vs a consumer good client, for example.

9) Be able to take criticism from people outside your department. And be willing to explain how analytics works to those who are more creatively driven or not as numerically driven as those in analytics.

10) Be confident in what you produce but don't be afraid to ask for ideas or help from other seasoned analytics professionals.

Stephanie Camello says . . . Now go out there an analyze!!!!!!!!

We now pronounce it the French way with the silent “S.” California - The name of an island in a Spanish 16th Century novel for which the Spanish explorers named the land they thought was an island. Turns out it was what we think of today as the state of California! Colorado - Named after the C...
