Inspired by her love of horror films, Stephanie Camello showcases a few of the most famous and haunted buildings in America! Take a look and tell us in the comments which one you find to be the most frightening!
The Queen Mary
Long Beach, California
This luxury liner from the 1930s has many stories of ghosts. It is said that 49 deaths were recorded on board and that 150 spirits haunt the ship.
One person died in the boiler room after being crushed by a watertight door and still haunts the engine and boiler rooms.
Ghost woman found dancing in white in one of the suites.
Ghost children wandering the pool deck.
Overall you can find flickering lights, creepy noises, whispering voices and even ghost sightings pretty much all over this creepy ship!
Skirvin Hotel
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Owner Bill Skirvin had an affair with a maid in the 1920s and she became pregnant. He locked her up in a room on the 10th story and she became depressed and distraught. After giving birth, she still had to stay up in the room all alone. She ended up committing suicide by jumping out of the 10 story window taking her newborn child with her.
It's said to be haunted by the woman and baby.
Many sports teams stay at this hotel and some NBA players have been awaken by cries of a baby and have been scared of the overall haunted ambiance of this place!
Sallie House
Atchison, Kansas
The story here is simple but terrible.
In 1933, a little girl was rushed to this home of the local doctor. She was suspected of having appendicitis and the doctor immediately had to operate, but the surgery became botched when the doctor started operating on the girl before the anesthesia kicked in and the girl died fairly quickly on the operating table.
Apparently the girl still haunts this house.
Villisca Axe Murder House
Villisca, Iowa
In June 1912 a couple, their 4 kids and 2 guests (the kids' friends) were all bludgeoned to death for no reason. The crime remains unsolved to this day. Both the interior and exterior are in the exact same condition as it was on the night of the murders.
This one's a total mystery.
St. Louis, Missouri
Short but creepy, this story involves multiple murders.
The Lemp family was a family that had a local brewing company in the early 1900s. Between the years 1904 and 1949, 4 members of the Lemp family murdered themselves in this home.
Today it's used as a restaurant and inn.
Stanley Hotel
Estes Park, Colorado
Stanley was the owner of this hotel and he lived to 91 and even though he didn't die in there he does still haunt the hotel. As does his wife Flora, whose spirit reportedly can be seen and heard playing the piano.
Another ghost is of the maid who was lighting lanterns in room 217 when a gas explosion occurred that seriously injured her. She later died but reportedly still haunts the hotel.
Also there's the ghost of an autistic boy who roams the grounds and plays with the hair of the guests.
Finally, there are even some haunted pets that have been seen roaming around the pet cemetery out back.
This was the model for The Shining's Overlook Hotel! (room 217 sound familiar!?)
