As a super fan of the band Queen, Stephanie Camello will explain why exactly Queen is the best rock band ever. From the members to the songs to the talent, she'll explain exactly why you should be a Queen super fan too!
The Band Members
Freddie Mercury
- Freddie Mercury has to be the coolest, most talented lead singers of all time and the most outgoing yet introverted rock star that ever existed.
- Freddie Mercury has to be the coolest, most talented lead singers of all time and the most outgoing yet introverted rock star that ever existed.
- Singer, song-writer, and piano and guitar player.
- Had a four-octave vocal range and became recognizable for his flamboyant and quirky stage persona.
- He was never afraid to be himself.
- He wrote many of their hit songs like "Bohemian Rhapsody," "Don't Stop Me Now," "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," Killer Queen" and "We Are the Champions" just to name a few!
Brian May
- Brian May is without a doubt the most down-to-earth, intelligent lead guitarist rock star that ever existed.
- His dad helped him build his first guitar, the "Red Special," and with his own stylistic personal tweaks this guitar is what gives Queen its iconic and distinctive sound.
- He has a PhD from Imperial College in Physics and Math and his thesis was on Solar Systems.
- He's a very calm, cool and collected person. He also loves volunteering with and educating others about animals and endangered wildlife. He's a big fan of photography and took many of the band's backstage and off-stage photos while on international tours. He even made a book about it! He's simply a kind soul who never let fame and fortune go to his head.
- He wrote many of their hit songs like "Fat Bottomed Girls," "Hammer to Fall," "We Will Rock You," "Tie Your Mother Down," and "Keep Yourself Alive" just to name a few!
Roger Taylor
- Roger is the wild playboy of the group and his sarcastic humor keeps everyone lively.
- He is the band's drummer and he started the band "Smile" with Brian May before Queen was formed.
- He was on track to become a dentist before the band became famous.
- He wrote many of their hit songs like "Radio GaGa," "I'm In Love With My Car," "A Kind of Magic," "Sheer Heart Attack," and "Calling All Girls" just to name a few!
John Deacon
- He played bass in the band.
- He was referred to as the "quiet member of the group."
- Before the band got famous, he earned a degree in Electronics.
- He wrote many of their hit songs like "Another One Bites the Dust," "You're My Best Friend," "I Want to Break Free," "Back Chat," and "Need Your Loving Tonight" just to name a few!
The best part of the whole thing is that all these guys are highly educated, highly talented and work extremely well together from an artistic and musical standpoint. Plus, each of them has written at several hugely popular songs for the band!
The Songs/The Albums
- Most of their 15 studio albums had their own theme to them, like "A Night at the Opera" which focused on classical rock operas and "Hot Space" which focused on pop, disco and funk.
- In Stephanie Camello's opinion, they had huge hits on each and every album from their first to their last.
- The songs ran the gamut of different genres while still retaining their own unique Queen sound.
- Each band member wrote their own amount of songs for each album. There wasn't one person who wrote it all, but each member was allowed to create a fairly equal number of songs and each had their own successes with multiple songs they wrote.
The Concert Performances and the Pioneering
- They were the first band to introduce the idea of the music video. They did it mostly because they wanted to showcase what they did on stage to larger audiences who weren't at their concerts, but then they realized it totally changed the music industry forever as it soon became the standard for all the acts that followed in the years to come. In fact, most artists still make music videos to this day. Queen pretty much jump started the MTV channel and culture.
- They took some huge risks. For example they dressed up as women in the "I Want To Break Free" video (which was Roger's idea by the way)! Plus just Freddie being himself and dressing in flamboyant costumes and dancing around with his unique moves was also very ahead of the times.

- Their live concerts also set a precedent for other acts as they introduced heavy light and fog displays. Freddie also heavily engaged the audience, getting them to sing along with him, take his direction to dance and to overall interact with him while on-stage. His on-stage presence is still unrivaled.
- Their performance at Live Aid in 1985 was, in Stephanie Camello's opinion as well as many others', considered to be their best performance as a band and often considered to be one of the best live performances of all time. Words can not describe its intensity, so take a look at it for yourself!
Now a lot more can be said of course on the band, the songs and the members, but this is a high level overview that just grazes the tip of the iceberg. You should go out and listen to all their albums and watch the movie "Bohemian Rhapsody" (Academy Award winner for Best Actor Rami Malek as Mercury is outstanding) and make an opinion for yourself, but you'll without a doubt come away from it all as a new Queen super fan!
