The Time Hillary Swank Used My Cell Phone in an LAX Bathroom

In summer of 2012 I was picking up my German foreign exchange student pen pal at the LAX airport. After he came off the plane I was going to drive him to his dorm, so naturally we made a pit stop at at the restroom before the drive. So I'm on my way out of the bathroom when a lady stops me and asks if she could use my phone to make a quick call since her phone died. Now she had 2 dogs with her and was sort of hiding in the alcove of the bathroom walkway like she didn't want to be seen or like she was hiding. I was basically face to face with her while she dialed or texted, I don't even know because she deleted the number or whatever she did so I couldn't call it back. She had a hat on so I couldn't get a great look, but to me she looked like the actress Hilary Swank. So I said, ''Hey you kinda look like Hilary Swank'' just to make small talk, but then she said "I am." So I'm in shock at that point, but I think I said something like ...

Stephanie Camello Suggests Friday Fish Dishes for Lent (#2 on 2/26/21 - Pasta Camello with Tilapia and Salad)

It's the second Friday in Lent already and that means you get your second Friday Fish Dish recipe! This is a recipe Stephanie Camello is very fond of. It's her grandmother's recipe that she loves eating and she thinks you'll love it too. This is an entire meal that starts with "Pasta Camello," then tilapia then finishes with a light salad.  Put olive oil covering the bottom of the skillet and add 4 cloves of chopped garlic and cook until it sizzles. Then add peeled and diced Roma tomatoes (about 12 for a pound of pasta). Now start smashing the tomatoes down using the back side of a spatula to desired consistency. Add capers, salt to taste, fresh basil leaves and pine nuts. Add as much or as little as you want! Stir it all in then put this sauce on the pasta once it's done cooking. Spaghetti tastes best with this sauce. Fish time! This is pretty easy because you just need to buy a few pieces of tilapia and cook it on the skillet for 10 minutes. The topping...

Memories of a Jeopardy! Taping ; An Alex Trebek Tribute

Stephanie Camello recalls: Jeopardy! was always my favorite show from the time I was a kid. Around 2010 my parents and I wanted to see a live show taping, so we registered on their site for free tickets to see a live taping out in Burbank. After we arrived we waited about an hour or so to be seated after our group had a small tour of the studio lot and the building it where it was taped. Then we were seated and the taping prep began. Before the taping actually began the announcer, Johnny Gilbert, came out to give us a rundown of what would happen, when to clap and general rules about taping live TV along with some cool anecdotes about past audiences and players and some side jokes to keep our energy up. Then Alex Trebek came out to introduce himself to us (there were probably a maximum of 50 people in the audience) and that's when we discovered that Alex Trebek was the most down to earth, honest to goodness nicest person to host a TV show. Alex told us some jokes, took a few audie...

Stephanie Camello Analyzes Family Guy vs. American Dad

Family Guy and American Dad are similar in their style, approach and comedy. But each are successful in their own way. Stephanie Camello breaks down the reasons to watch both and what each has to offer to its audiences. Family Guy - This is the original Seth MacFarlane masterpiece; it's what really brought fame to his name. - It started in 1999 and went head-to-head with The Simpsons which by that time had been around for 10 years. And it managed to be successful after some time and gain its own following. - There are many, many characters with their own catch phrases or accents, most of which are voiced by a handful of voice actors, MacFarlane voicing the most characters, but is most famous for Peter, Stewie and Quagmire. - Dirty jokes, innuendos, inappropriate jokes that we laugh at because they are true observations of society. It can also be very gratuitous in nature. - Specific characteristics tied to each character. - Main characters are voiced by actors like Mila Kunis, A...

Stephanie Camello Explains Why "The Orville" Is the Perfect Trifecta of Space Dramedies

To Stephanie Camello , The Orville encompasses 3 key elements that make it not only successful and likable, but reminiscent of timeless space classics. Together, the perfect trifecta of Star Wars and Star Trek all wrapped snugly in Seth MacFarlane's comedic style make this the best space dramedy of our time. Star Wars Elements 1) Relationship drama exists between the leads. The ongoing relationship between Captain Ed Mercer and Commander Kelly Grayson is the main ongoing relationship tug-of-war. The series begins with them married but Kelly cheats on Ed and the marriage is dissolved. However when Kelly joins Ed's ship as lead Commander a year later, the dynamic goes from awkward sarcastic anger from Ed to remorse from Kelly to a "will they, won't they" relationship that ultimately ends up with them becoming good friends as they do their jobs together on the ship. This is quite similar to the relationship in Star Wars between Princess Leia and Han Solo. Whi...

Stephanie Camello Compiles the Origins of U.S. State Names

Alabama - Native American Choctaw name meaning “vegetation gatherer.” Alaska - Aleut language translates “Alaska” to “the object toward which the action of the sea is directed.” Arizona - Spanish word “Arizonac” which has origins from the Native American O’odham tribe’s word meaning “small spring.” Arkansas - The French pronunciation of the Quapawa Indians word for which the Algonquin tribe referred to as “akansa.” The French pronunciation was “Arcansas.” The reason we don’t say the “S” is because on an 1881 act passed by the state to solve a dispute between two senators who disputed over the pronunciation. We now pronounce it the French way with the silent “S.” California - The name of an island in a Spanish 16th Century novel for which the Spanish explorers named the land they thought was an island. Turns out it was what we think of today as the state of California! Colorado - Named after the C...

Stephanie Camello Reflects on Why Seth MacFarlane Is This Generation’s Mel Blanc And Then Some

Why Seth MacFarlane Is This Generation’s Mel Blanc And Then Some By Stephanie Camello I’ve always loved Seth MacFarlane , but recently I’ve really come to see that he’s talented in a way that most of us can only dream of. And he’s humble about it too! Like Hollywood cartoon voice legend Mel Blanc (of Looney Tunes and Flintstones fame, among others), Seth MacFarlane has created dozens of voices for characters on multiple TV cartoon shows. But wait, there’s so much more and I’m listing all the reasons to give total respect to this behemoth of talent that walks among us, the one and only, Seth MacFarlane (maybe that’s a little much, but hey, I’m a super fan)! Here are some reasons WHY he’s one of the most talented people in Hollywood: He writes, directs and produces his own shows (Family Guy, American Dad, The Cleveland Show, Ted, The Orville, A Million Ways to Die in the West, among others). He performs over half of all the male voices on all his shows, mo...
